Spears’ Scores With New Video
Britney Spears’ new video premiered on ABC’s 20/20 last night, and it actually is pretty- gulp- good. Pretty shocking, yes.
The video for “Womanizer,” the lead single from Spears’ sixth album, Circus (due in December), has Spears portraying three vixens who get chased by- you got it- a womanizing dude who doesn’t know when to quit.
Prerequisite glamour shots of Spears- this time, naked in a sauna- fill parts of the clip, with our heroine covering up her breasts with her arms. The flesh party is the least interesting part of the video- it’s very Janet Jackson “Every Time,” and adds nothing to the already sultry proceedings.
Joseph Kahn directed the video (which can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBU55JLbmOk), and it’s actually one of Spears’ most entertaining to date (my favorite Britney in this clip is the short black-haired office chick). The track itself isn’t all that engrossing (she only says the title about 105 times), nor is it one of her best, but the clip’s energy and bounce compensate.
“Womanizer” has been ranked No. 1 at iTunes for days now, and has a strong shot at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 next week. Such news would be welcome for the troubled pop star, who has spent the last couple of years spiraling out of control, though now may be on the road back to a “normal” life- and career.
(I’ll be taking an in-depth look at Spears, her turbulent life and her place in pop in a future entry).
For now, the “Womanizer” video- if seen by anyone fitting the description- may transform those with a wandering eye into honest, one-woman men (or women) yet.
I was shocked at how good it was too. I hate to admit it.
